About the Davis Parent Teacher Association
The Davis Elementary Parent Teacher Association's (PTA) mission is to ensure that every student at Davis can reach their full potential through public education. The PTA helps students by building strong working relationships among parents, teachers, and the school administration.
The Davis PTA fulfills our mission in these four ways:
The Davis PTA provides a frame-work for parents, teachers, students, and administrators to come together on an on-going basis to have a dialogue and make decisions as a community.
We are a ground-up organization; it’s our members that decide how to best support our Davis Dolphins. It sounds like serious business (and it is) but the PTA is a great way to have lots of fun and make new friends, while serving the Davis community.
PTA plans and hosts our school carnival, Dolphin Fest; the Big To Do, our annual parent party; Spring Fling, our end of year celebration, as well as Skate Nights and Dine with Davis.
We bring our community together for fun events year round because a community that plays together stays together.
We can all agree that an outstanding education requires learning more than just the basics of each subject. Which is why the PTA Provides:
Financial support for enhanced Art and Music programs; including our annual Reflections Art Gallery and Exhibition that showcases Davis Dolphins’ talents in visual arts, music composition, photography and more.
Student winners from Davis elementary have the opportunity to show their submissions at the state and national level.
Davis PTA enriches campus life in lots of ways large and small. We create the yearbook, manage the website and campus communications, run the Science Fair, host the 5th grade play, and our “Welcome to Davis” committee plans events for incoming kindergarten families.
Support for students & teachers
Austin, Texas is the new technology capital of the world. Davis PTA wants Davis Dolphins to be the next generation of innovators that pioneer new breakthroughs! Which is why the PTA Provides funding for:
Curriculum, teacher training, and materials for Project Lead the Way (PLTW.) This program is tailored to empower young students to solve real-world problems collaboratively in small groups using critical thinking and communication. This approach provides students with opportunities to apply what they know, persevere through challenges, find unique solutions, and lead their own learning in fields of study, such as computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.
Our students deserve the best. Every year, PTA provides funds for new library books, PE equipment, updated technology, etc. PTA is here to make sure our students have the supplies and resources that they need each and every year.
Now more than ever we know that teachers are the most essential of workers and deserve to be treated as such! Teaching is a rewarding, but challenging, profession. The Davis PTA works hard to make sure the teachers have the resources that they need and feel supported and appreciated.
The average teacher in the U.S. spends about $500 of their own money on classroom supplies for their students every year. The PTA provides approximately $200 to each Davis teacher each year to make sure they have what they need to make their classroom a success. Our appreciation committee works year round to make sure the teachers know how much we truly appreciate them.
The best way to teach our students to be future leaders and good citizens is by setting an example. The Davis PTA is actively engaged in helping shape policy decisions that affect education at the local, state, and federal level. We educate our community about important educational issues when they are on the ballot and help get our community to the polls during elections.
The Davis PTA worked with a coalition of organizations to pass historic House Bill 3, which increased funding for classrooms and increased teacher compensation.
Our advocacy efforts were recognized by Mayor Steve Adler and City Council Representative Dr. Alison Alter, and we were honored to accept the National PTA Local Advocacy award for 2020.
None of this amazing work would be possible without a dedicated team of volunteers.
Some parents have no idea that the PTA funds and organizes so much of this incredible work, so make sure to join, donate, and help spread the word!
