About the Davis Parent Teacher Association

The Davis Elementary Parent Teacher Association's (PTA) mission is to ensure that every student at Davis can reach their full potential through public education. The PTA helps students by building strong working relationships among parents, teachers, and the school administration.

The Davis PTA fulfills our mission in these four ways:

COMMUNITY

The Davis PTA provides a framework for parents, teachers, students, and administrators to come together on an on-going basis to have open communication and make decisions as a community.

We are a ground-up organization; it’s our members that decide how to best support our Davis Dolphins. It sounds like serious business (and it is) but the PTA is a great way to have lots of fun and make new friends, while serving the Davis community.

PTA plans and hosts our annual school carnival, DolphinFest, our annual adults-only fundraising event, the Big-To-Do, Back to School Ice Cream Social, Welcome to Davis Club events for incoming kindergarten families, Book Fair week, Grandparents' Luncheon, Dine with Davis sprit nights, and bi-monthly PTA meetings.

Our PTA communications team keeps the Davis community informed on all school & PTA news, events and opportunities through our PTA website, Dolphin Digest weekly e-newsletter, and social media.

Our Spirit Gear committee ensures our community can show their Dolphin Pride with new Davis spirit gear every year.

ENRICHMENT

An outstanding education requires learning more than just the basics of each subject. Davis PTA enriches campus life in lots of ways large and small. We run the Science Fair, Reflections Art Program, and 5th Grade Drama Club, providing further enrichment in science and arts for our students and families.

The PTA Grounds Beautification committee supports sustainability efforts on campus and encourages students to become lifelong environmental stewards. This group works on campus and grounds improvement projects that support teachers, staff and students. In 2024 this group completed a large project transforming the school’s one-acre front yard into a usable environment that promotes exploration and education through nature for our students and staff.

The PTA also creates the annual yearbook providing a lifetime of Davis memories for our students and families to cherish.

Support for students & teachers

Austin, Texas is a worldwide technology capital. Davis PTA wants Davis Dolphins to be the next generation of innovators that pioneer new breakthroughs! Our students deserve the best.

The Davis PTA provides funding for curriculum, teacher training, and materials for the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program. This program is tailored to empower young students to solve real-world problems collaboratively in small groups using critical thinking and communication. This approach provides students with opportunities to apply what they know, persevere through challenges, find unique solutions, and lead their own learning in fields of study, such as computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.

Every year, PTA provides funds for new library books, PE equipment, outdoor classrooms, updated technology, etc. The average teacher in the U.S. spends about $500 of their own money on classroom supplies for their students every year. The PTA provides approximately $200 to each Davis teacher each year to make sure they have what they need to make their classroom and school year a success.

The PTA's Teacher & Staff Appreciation committee works to express our gratitude all year long by organizing monthly lunches, treats & snacks, and small gifts of appreciation.

PTA coordinates Room Parents who play an important role in supporting our teachers all year long – organizing activities, sourcing volunteers & donations, communicating key grade level & classroom needs to class parents, providing classroom assistance as needed, and organizing classroom teacher holiday, birthday & appreciation gifts.

Our Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) committee brings our Davis dads together to support our teachers, staff and students all year long - providing positive male role models for students, enhancing school security and reducing bullying.

Our Pod Packs committee organizes and distributes weekend meals for over 100 students in need every week for the entire school year - providing much-needed food security for our community.

Advocacy

The best way to teach our students to be future leaders and good citizens is by setting an example. The Davis PTA is actively engaged in helping shape policy decisions that affect education at the local, state, and federal level. We educate our community about important educational issues when they are on the ballot and help get our community to the polls during elections.

Our advocacy efforts were recognized by Mayor Steve Adler and City Council Representative Dr. Alison Alter, and we were honored to accept the National PTA Local Advocacy award for 2020.

None of this amazing work would be possible without a dedicated team of volunteers.

Some parents have no idea that the PTA funds and organizes so much of this incredible work, so please join, donate if you are able, and help spread the word about this great association!
